Feb 2012A client workshop hosted by our customs and trade specialists was conducted in Shanghai for the retail & consumer ("R&C") sector in November 2011. A survey questionnaire focusing on various aspects of cross-border operations was completed by the participants of the workshop. The results have been analysed, consolidated and reported in this publication.
The publication aims to provide the most updated environment and challenges faced by multinational R&C companies on importing apparel, footwear and fashion accessories into China. The results tell us that the R&C sector continues to face tariff and non-tariff challenges from China Customs, Commodity Inspection and Quarantine ("CIQ") and other government agencies, with a focus on the following aspects:
- Controlling landed costs in China
- Attaining operational excellence
- Overcoming market access barriers
- Internal responsibility
