John is part of PwC's Value Chain Transformation ("VCT") Core Team in Asia and has been based in Singapore since 2008.
His main role in the Core Team is to oversee the delivery of VCT projects in the Asia region. As an experienced indirect tax advisor he also has primary responsibility for any indirect tax content within VCT projects.
John has lead or been involved in VCT projects in both Asia and Europe for more than 10 years , involving businesses from a variety of industries including FMCG, technology, pharma/healthcare and industrial products.
Before joining the VCT Core Team, John held the position of CEO / Managing Partner of PwC's Asia regional customs and international trade practice for 5 years. Prior to his move to Singapore, John spent over 7 years in China (Shanghai), where he was also the leader of PwC’s customs and international trade practice in Greater China.
John has extensive knowledge of importing and exporting rules, regulations and procedures in the Asia region and has advised many companies on setting up or modifying their operations to develop optimised business models whether for manufacturing, sourcing, distribution or sales.
Throughout his time with PwC he has been heavily involved in advising companies on the indirect tax dimension of globalisation strategies and on internal risk management controls and procedures associated with cross-border trade.
John's move to China in 2001 was from Europe (PwC UK) where he had been a partner since 1988. He was formerly head of PwC's UK customs and international trade practice and "theatre" leader of the regional customs and international trade network in Europe, Middle East and Africa. Before joining PwC, John served in the UK's Customs service for a total of 13 years during which time he held positions in both customs and VAT control and enforcement. | | |
